Software Engineer · Nairobi
I'm a Computer Science graduate from the University of Nairobi, currently at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) on their TDGG livestock data system, part of the Africa-Asia Dairy Genetic Gains programme. Since 2023 I've been building production software: web and mobile apps, M-Pesa and Paystack payments, and the Linux servers behind them, for research institutes, agribusiness, and consulting clients in Kenya.
Before this internship I led development of eKapiti, a booking app for ILRI's Kapiti Wildlife Conservancy, from prototype through to production. I run infrastructure and ship sites for Kilimo Hakika Limited on an ongoing contract, and I've taken on freelance work through Bedefast Consultancy, including a full content platform for CPHRM Group. I also maintain a volunteer site for the Episcopal Diocese of Wanyjok.
My research interest is data systems for agricultural and livestock research: how the data is modelled, how records move off legacy systems, and how they're captured in the field. Close to that sits IoT sensing and the machine learning that turns a raw sensor stream into something a person can act on, which is what my final year project, MajiGuard, was built around. I hold an IBM Data Science Professional Certificate from Coursera.
I'm also interested in software written for low-connectivity areas, and in payment rails more broadly. I've built M-Pesa and Paystack integrations and want to understand that space more deeply, Web3 settlement models included, though I hold that as something to learn rather than something I can speak to from experience yet.
